Back Pain Care

Comprehensive Back Pain Care

Back pain is the most common reason patients walk into a chiropractic office, and the least specific. “Back pain” can mean a strained muscle from moving boxes, a facet joint that stopped moving well, a herniated disc pressing on a nerve, or the slow accumulation of a desk-bound decade.

These are different problems with different treatments, which is why care at Hornback Chiropractic & Wellness starts with figuring out which one you actually have. The practice, serving the Sarasota and Manatee County area since 2002, treats back pain at all three of its offices.

Overview

What commonly causes back pain?

The reason the distinction matters: a strained muscle does not need decompression, and a herniated disc does not resolve because you stretched your hamstrings. The exam is what tells them apart.

Know the Signs

When should you get back pain evaluated?

A short episode after obvious overexertion often settles with a few days of relative rest and easy movement. Get evaluated when pain persists beyond a week, keeps returning, radiates into a leg, or starts limiting work, sleep, or the activity that makes you you. Chronic pain that has plateaued with other conservative care is also worth a fresh set of eyes, since a plateau often means the plan is treating the wrong source.

Emergency signs, not chiropractic appointments

Back pain with loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, fever, or pain following significant trauma such as a fall or collision needs emergency medical evaluation first.

Our Treatment

How back pain is treated at Hornback Chiropractic & Wellness

An exam and history come first, with imaging discussed if your findings call for it. Then the plan follows the source. Joint dysfunction and strain patterns are typically addressed with chiropractic adjustment and a plan of care with checkpoints. Disc-related cases may add non-surgical spinal decompression under the Kennedy protocol, with sessions up to 15 minutes, available at all three offices. Pain connected to a car accident is handled under the practice’s auto injury care, which is booked as its own appointment type.

What you will not get

A one-size-fits-all plan or an open-ended one. Your progress is reviewed as care proceeds, and if the results are not following, the plan changes. The doctors will also tell you plainly if your back pain needs something chiropractic care does not provide.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

When it persists beyond a week or two, keeps returning, radiates into a leg, or limits work, sleep, or activity. The emergency signs above go to the emergency room first.
Muscle and ligament strain, joint dysfunction, disc problems, and postural load are the common sources, and they are treated differently, which is why the exam matters. One caution: ignored pain can lead to more advanced conditions that take more to treat. Pain is often the body’s last alarm that something underlying needs attention, and finding the cause promptly prevents bigger problems later.
Exam first, then a plan matched to the source: chiropractic adjustment for joint and strain patterns, Kennedy protocol spinal decompression for disc-related cases, and SoftWave® therapy for tendonitis and muscle strain, with checkpoints throughout.
Not always. It depends on your history, exam findings, and warning signs. If imaging is needed, that conversation happens before care begins, and bring any imaging you already have.
