Chiropractic Care, Matched to Your Exam
What an adjustment actually does, the four techniques used across the practice, and the plain-answer standard behind every plan of care.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic Care That Starts With Answers
Chiropractic care is the foundation service at Hornback Chiropractic & Wellness: the careful evaluation of how your spine and joints are moving, and precise, hands-on treatment where they are not. It is the service every other one builds on, and it starts the same way everything here starts: a free initial consultation, an exam, and a plain conversation about what the findings mean before anything is treated.
How It Works
What an adjustment actually does
Joints are built to move, and when a spinal joint stops moving well, the body notices: local pain, muscle guarding, stiffness, and sometimes irritation of the nerves nearby. An adjustment is a precise, controlled movement applied to that joint to restore its motion. It is not cracking your back for the sound; the sound is incidental. The point is measured movement applied exactly where the exam says it is needed.
Our Techniques
Four techniques, matched to the patient
- Diversified. The classic hands-on adjustment most people picture, precise and effective for restoring joint motion.
- Cox Flexion-Distraction. A gentle, non-thrusting technique performed on a specialized table, frequently used for disc conditions and for patients who need a lighter touch.
- Activator Methods. A handheld instrument delivering a light, targeted impulse, useful for patients who prefer or require the gentlest option.
- Kennedy Decompression Technique. The protocol behind the practice's non-surgical spinal decompression program, with sessions up to 15 minutes.
Which technique your care uses is a clinical decision, not a menu choice, and it can change as your care progresses. Patients who need gentler approaches get them; patients whose findings call for decompression are told why.
Conditions Treated
What chiropractic care here treats
The conditions pages cover the full list in detail: back pain, neck pain, herniated discs, sciatica, whiplash and auto injuries, neck-driven headaches, and sports injuries. All of the practice’s doctors treat pediatric patients as well as adults, and prenatal care is available through Dr. Miranda Torres, who is Webster Certified.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A precise, controlled movement applied to a joint, most often in the spine, to restore motion where a joint has stopped moving well and to reduce the irritation that restriction causes. It is the foundation technique of chiropractic care, and how it is applied varies by technique and by patient.
What techniques does Hornback Chiropractic use?
The practice’s doctors use several, matched to the patient: Diversified (the classic hands-on adjustment), Cox Flexion-Distraction (a gentle, non-thrusting table technique often used for disc conditions), Activator Methods (a handheld instrument delivering a light, precise impulse), and the Kennedy Decompression Technique for non-surgical spinal decompression.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Most patients feel pressure and movement rather than pain, and many feel looser immediately after. Some experience mild soreness afterward, similar to after exercise, that settles within a day or so. Gentler techniques like Activator and Flexion-Distraction exist precisely for patients who need or prefer a lighter approach.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Florida?
No referral is needed to be seen: chiropractic physicians are portal-of-entry providers in Florida, so you can schedule directly. One nuance: some insurance plans have their own referral rules for coverage, which the team checks when verifying your plan. Your initial consultation is free, and costs are quoted before any treatment begins.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what the exam finds, and any provider who quotes a number before examining you is guessing. Your plan is built around your findings, reviewed at checkpoints, and adjusted based on your progress.
